Each year we run field trips for third year undergraduates in terrestrial ecology. With the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic we thought it was a good idea to create videos of the methods students would use during the field trip. The videos went through how to measure the vegetation of the forest, how to collect invertebrates using a leaf litter sieve, and how to take location measurements such as aspect and slope. We hoped this could support the learning of students who couldn’t come on the field trips, and also prepare students for what they would be doing on the day. Filming took place over two days on campus and in reserves in Hamilton City.
